Music

In almost every culture throughout history, Music has played a central role. It speaks to our emotions, enables self-expression and can even provide an escape from reality.
Our KS3 Music curriculum, aims to prepare students for lifelong musical learning. Through meaningful practical experiences, students develop their character, creativity and cultural capital. Our curriculum is designed to nurture pupils as performers, composers and informed listeners. They are taught to use their voices and instruments to perform music across a range of styles with fluency and expression. They are taught to control sound to realise their creative intentions through composition. And they are taught how to listen carefully, appreciating the creative decisions of other composers and performers.

Progression pathways and careers

Students are able to complete level 2 and 3 courses in Music and Music Technology, allowing students to progress on to college or university to study music further. However, if students decide to end their formal music education at the end of Year 9, it is hoped that they will continue to perform and listen to music into their later lives.
