Year 7

Once your child has been offered a place, you will be invited to a welcome event. We also hold a number of VIP afterschool events where students get an opportunity to meet each other before they start.

In May and June, our Year 7 transition team visit most primary schools to meet with the students and their Year 6 teachers. All students are invited for an interview with their parents. It is an opportunity to share information, complete essential paperwork; as well as go through uniform and expectations. For those students with additional needs we may arrange further visits to support the transition process.

For those students who are transferring from a school where there are only one or two students moving to Hendon School we invite these students to a VIP (Very Important Person) picnic, the day before transition day. The picnic will be in early July. It is an opportunity for the students to meet key staff, make friends and get a feel for the school before they attend the transition day. Parents/carers are also welcome to attend the picnic.

Transition day for those starting in September 2024 will  be on the first Thursday of July. During this day students will get to meet their form tutors and members of their form class. They take part in a range of activities and lessons culminating in a year group activity at the end of the day. This day is to give students an opportunity to experience what secondary school is like as well as helping to settle their nerves.  We run a parents’ coffee morning on transition day, as we understand that it is not just the students who are nervous.
