Assessment Details: 2 units in year 12 consisting of written examinations:
Unit 1- Law making and the legal system- 50% AS
Unit 2-The Concept of liability- 50% AS
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain an understanding of Legal systems including how laws are made, the court structure and an introduction to Criminal and Tort Law.
Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course:
It is beneficial to have completed at least one other GCSE in addition to English e.g. History, which required detailed reading and extended writing. Good written ability and a commitment to reading challenging but stimulating material would ensure good progress.
English, Government and Politics, History and other reading based subjects as well as Sciences or Maths.

The A level Law course would be suitable to any student who enjoys analytical thinking, and appreciates reading and writing. A student, having obtained the A level, can progress to any field at university. This course is not only relevant to a student wanting to pursue a career in law since many degree courses for example construction, engineering and business now have law modules as part of the degree.
