BTEC Level 3 First Award in Travel and Tourism
(Equivalent to one GCE A Level – Two Year Course)

Assessment Details: Assessment is through coursework which has to be produced for each unit studied. There are no written examinations.
Course Outline: To achieve the Subsidiary Diploma 6 units, 4 mandatory units and 2 optional units have to be studied. The Subsidiary Diploma will be awarded at Distinction, Merit or Pass standard depending on the quality of work produced. This course runs over two years.
The units to be studied are:
Unit 1 Investigating the Travel and Tourism Sector
Unit 2 The Business of Travel and Tourism
Unit 3 The UK as a Destination
Unit 4 Customer Service in Travel and Tourism
Unit 6 Preparing for Employment in Travel and Tourism
Unit 7 European Destinations
Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course:
An interest in the Travel and Tourism industry with a possible desire to enter employment in that area. You should enjoy using computers to research and produce material. You must also be prepared to search for other sources such as books, brochures, atlases. It is an interesting subject to anyone who enjoys travelling.
Goes well with any AS or A2 subject qualifications, however, it is not advised that this subject should be taken with more than one other coursework based subject due to strict coursework deadlines.
