Course Outline:

AS Spanish

The course is divided into focussed learning areas to ensure that students are given the opportunity to cover all aspects of the Spanish AS curriculum.  These areas include; translation skills, comprehensions, essay writing and grammar.  We use a wide range of learning and teaching techniques and exciting and stimulating challenges and activities to motivate our students, to deepen their learning and to promote independent thinking skills. We ensure our students are well-supported, but encourage them to take risks and to ask challenging questions.

A2 Spanish

This course builds on the skills developed during the AS course.  Again, in order to ensure that all areas of the curriculum are covered in depth, we use focussed learning areas.  These include; translation skills, comprehensions, essay writing and grammar.  Students are also encouraged to develop their debating strategies in the foreign language, to keep up with news and current affairs, and to be able to both hold conversations and write about these.

Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course:

You need to have a real passion for languages, and a desire for a challenge. You need to be able to motivate yourself to work independently, as well as be confident enough to take risks and have a go at expressing yourself in the target language. You need to be well-organised and a desire to travel is always an advantage!

The ability to master a foreign language puts you in a great position to apply for jobs in all sorts of spheres, from journalism to translation, to the business world, to science, to the creative arts, to accountancy. As long as you combine the language with the right subjects, no door will remain closed to you! Being able to speak another language will give you travel opportunities in the world of work and further education.
