GCSE Design and Technology: Graphic Products (AQA)

Throughout the course pupils will build on existing skills and knowledge learned at Key Stage 3, and they will be introduced to new areas of experience such as technical drawing, product analysis and design awareness.

Students will be able to design and make original and creative products, using a range of graphic and modelling materials. Through the use of images students will learn about colour and design theory, develop spatial concepts and understand graphic materials and how to manipulate them. Students will also learn about sustainability and the environmental impact of their designing.

This will be taught through a range of practical activities. Upon completing this course students can continue to study graphic design by taking A Level Product Design, which can lead to access to an Art Foundation course and a degree in any design related subject.

Other Information:

We always aim to enhance the subject by offering extra-curricular activities run after school on some days of the week. There is also a weekly study session, which allows students to either catch up with coursework or to further enhance it. During the year we organise educational visits as well as workshops run by external visitors, which enable students to fully understand the importance of design and its impact on society.
