Assessment Details: 2 units in year 12 consisting of written examinations:
UNIT 1: Businesses, their objectives and environment- 50% AS
UNIT 2: The functional areas in Businesses- 50% AS
The aim of the course is to enable students to gain an understanding of how businesses run, how decisions are made within them, how external factors affect them and how to make decisions for them.
Skills / Aptitudes required to be successful in this course:
It is beneficial to have completed GCSE Business as a foundation for the course, however this is not mandatory. Good written ability and a commitment to reading challenging but stimulating material would ensure good progress.
Economics and other Mathematics based subjects as well as writing based subjects including Law, History or English
Pathways – Career and /or further study possibilities, using this subject:
Careers where the subject may have relevance include those in management, investment banking, finance, accounting, marketing, banking, advertising, public relations, fashion designing- any career that needs to be managed, that is ANY business.
It will appeal to students who enjoyed Business Studies at GCSE, who want to run a business one day, who find current affairs interesting or who want to study a subject that would have impact on any career they may take.
This subject would be of use to anyone who wants to study Management, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Finance and any Business related course. It would form the basics of what would be covered with an MBA.
